In the last century, a visionary idea took shape in our faculty…
Story by Renate de la Paix, CAWEB Master Course Director:
It was at the end of the 90s that Professor Jean Dewitz introduced me to his visionary idea: to offer our students of applied foreign languages new professional opportunities in the emerging field of web technologies and localisation. At the time, the term ‘localisation’ was largely unknown, but thanks to our determination and our pioneering partners, we opened up new horizons for our students.
For many years, Bert Esselink‘s book “A Practical Guide to Localization” was our cornerstone. We may even have distinguished ourselves by being among the first to translate it into French for our translation courses. This was the start of an exciting adventure!
As we prepare to celebrate CAWEB’s 20th anniversary, I’d like to pay tribute to our early localization partners,
- Karl-Heinz Freigang
- Christophe Hennebelle
- Kathryn Dixon
- Daniel Zielinski
- Alexandra Janik
- Michael Schneider
- Laurence Roguet
Their unfailing support and invaluable collaboration have been essential in making our vision a reality.
Join us this 22 June 2024 in Strasbourg to celebrate 20 years of success, innovation and partnership! And stay tuned for more announcements about the festivities to come.
