A Day in the Life of a Distance Learner Pursuing the Certificate in Usability and UX Design at the University of Strasbourg

Morning

The day begins with the familiar chime of the alarm — and a reminder that sleep is no substitute for dinner. A proper breakfast feels like a small but meaningful victory.

I check my inbox for updates from fellow students. Although we’re spread across time zones and learning asynchronously, there’s always someone active. This sense of connection makes the remote learning experience feel remarkably collaborative.

Midday

Lunch offers a welcome break, often shared with colleagues who, like me, are balancing professional responsibilities with academic goals.

As we chat, I mentally prepare for the evening’s classes — Digital Marketing from 6 to 7 PM, followed by UX Research from 7 to 8 PM. It’s a powerful combination — one sharpens strategic thinking, the other deepens user insight and empathy. Distinct disciplines, yet beautifully complementary.

Afternoon

Back at my desk, the afternoon seems to fly by — perhaps it’s the anticipation of class, or simply the rhythm of a routine that’s becoming second nature.

Evening

Home again.

The systems I’ve put in place to simplify life are paying off: dinner is ready to reheat, my laptop is prepped, and I manage a quick shower before class.

In 15 minutes, I’ll be online — camera on, notes open, fully engaged. It’s a balancing act, but one I’m proud to be mastering.

Grateful to be part of the University of Strasbourg’s distance learning community and to be working toward the Certificate in Usability and UX Design — a journey that’s as enriching as it is demanding.
